Give credit to Coach Tom Crean for quickly turning around a program that was plagued with problems due to the mistakes of his predecessor Kevin Sampson, who is now the new head coach at Houston.

The school’s self imposed sanctions in 2008, according ESPN, included several recruiting restrictions and a scholarship reduction. The Sanctions came to an end on November 24, 2011. Soon afterwards Coach Crean led Indiana to two consecutive Sweat Sixteen appearances in 2012 and 2013.

Last Season, Coach Crean’s team went only 7-11 in the Big ten and 17-15 overall, which caused some people to speculate that his job may be on the line. But that was only one season. Coach Crean has some good recruits coming in this year, including a top ranked shooting guard from Indiana, James Blackmon. Blackmon should do well with returning point guard and Indiana’s top scorer Yogi Ferrell.

Even with Yogi Ferrell returning, Indiana ranked only 265th nationally in assists last year. This needs to improve. With Noah Vonleh going pro, who will replace the nine (9) rebounds per game?
